About Amia
Amia Algier (aka Amy Pacheco) started her journey into Oriental Dance in 1998, after learning that her grandmother had secretly taken "belly dance lessons" back in the 1960's. Intrigued by this "dark family secret", she decided to see what the fuss was all about, and signed up for the first belly dance class she could find. Completely enthralled with the dance from the very first lesson, she has studied under several local teachers, such as Mahisha Alail, Suzanna del Vecchio, Eva Cernik, and Zafia.
Amia has performed at several local shows and venues, including the Chautauqua Assembly in Palmer Lake, Tajine Alami Moroccan Restaurant, Cedar's Jazz Club, Colorado Springs annual Diversity Festival, The Runyon Theater in Pueblo, Caspian Cafe in Colorado Springs, and the Raks El Sehr in Fort Collins to name a few. She also dances with the professional dance troupe Gidda Hoop. Amia can be seen regularly at the Caspian Cafe on Thursdays and Saturdays of every month.
She began teaching in 2007 after endless prompting from friends, teachers, and fellow students. She has successfully taught classes at several dance studios and gyms such as Springs Salsa, Spectrum Wellness Center, The Studio Dance and Art Center, and Gold's Gym. She is also currently studying to obtain her ACE certification as a Group Fitness Instructor.
With a welcoming smile, and constant sense of fun, Amia joyfully shares her love of belly dance with all that wish to learn.
