Past Class Descriptions (2009)
Beginners Belly dance
Learn the foundations of all styles of Oriental Dance, aka Belly Dance. Belly Dance is for everyone, of any size, age or shape. With natural movements that look good on every body, belly dance is a fun and inspiring workout, but most of all it is a dance of celebration! No previous experience required, all levels of dancers are welcome.
What to wear/bring: comfortable workout clothes;
a coin or hip scarf if you have one to better see/hear your hip movements;
you can go barefoot, wear socks or non-marking athletic shoes (whatever
you are comfortable in); water, and a smile.
Belly Dance for Fitness
For all levels! This class is about
moving, burning fat, and just dancing. Learn choreographies for fun and to drill common belly dance moves and learn
to shake your shimmy! No prior dance experience necessary. Come shimmy and
sweat with us :) Class is ongoing, join any time!

Conditioning for Belly Dance
This is a class designed to increase the speed and accuracy of your bellydance isolations. Each class will include a yoga warm up, shimmy and isolation drills, squats, lunges, ab work, etc, as well as fun high energy combinations to use in your dancing. Bring a yoga mat if you have one, water, and wear comfortable workout gear (pants recommended as we will be doing work on the floor). Previous Belly dance experience helpful but not required.
Zill Choreography
Learn a fun dance choreography, while learning to play various finger cymbal rhythms. This class will concentrate on different accompanying rhythms, as well as playing melodies and accents with the finger cymbals. Previous Belly dance experience helpful but not required. Zills/Finger cymbals are required for this class. Your instructor will have some for sale, or to borrow, if you do not have your own set.
Fusion Bellydance
Traditional Raqs Sharqi with a small blending of American Tribal Style (ATS), and other dance forms such as hip hop, flamenco, samba, and bhangra, as well as yoga principles of strength and fluidity. This is the perfect class for beginners who want to learn belly dance basics, and add some modern flair. This class concentrates on the fundamental vocabulary of classic Egyptian and Turkish belly dance, as well as developing technique in isolations, undulations, travelling steps, and how to put it all together in a simple and fun choreography. What to Wear: Form Fitted Comfy Clothing/Hip Scarf/ and Barefeet or soft slippers.
